Abundance

by Moderator on October 16, 2008

The topic of abundance has been on my mind lately. I entered into the month with high hopes that with the kids back in school I’d have an abundance of time to get things done or going again. I’ve gotten an abundance…just not of time!

I’ve had an abundance of new and wonderful clients to work with, some fantastic opportunities to partner with others, and an abundance of the unexpected. From sick kids to technical challenges, to my mom being hospitalized, I’ve covered the bases on the unexpected.

There was a time (and still are moments) where I’d have considered these things ‘setbacks’. But now I actually see them more as realities and in some cases opportunities. I have big goals, just like you probably do. And yet sometimes life has other ideas of what should get my time, focus, energy, and/or money! I’m sure you can relate.

But I’ve finally gotten clear that I can’t put my goals on hold in order to deal with what life is bringing me. If I did, I’d never accomplish anything that really excited me (other than getting through the day). That doesn’t mean I haven’t had to change timelines, approaches or lower the bar on my expectations…because I have. But I’ve refused to say “I guess my dream has to wait until ______ is over.” Delaying our dreams and goals drags us down. When life is asking much of us, we actually need the energy of our dreams to keep us going.

So I have a request for you: keep focusing on your dreams and know that we do live in a time of abundance (stop watching the scarcity news, please!). It may not show up perfectly packaged and timed, but you can achieve your goals if you just stay committed and on track. If we all believe that for each other and ourselves, the world would certainly be a better place!

Shawn,

I just read your thoughts on abundance, and thought how fitting that this came into my life on Thanksgiving Day. I love your idea of reframing “setbacks” into realities and opportunities … that’s exactly what they are! I read once, “Whatever you bless, blesses you; whatever you curse, curses you.”

Giving thanks today for so many things, including the positive influence you continue to have on my career and my life. You rock!

Gina
