Love this post! I needed to hear that question as I sit here in my home office with lots of 'stuff' around me! I love books but I have way too many of them (is that even possible) and they are taking over my space. I only refer to a handful and do the rest of my research online. Time to let go of some of them - thank you!

Love this, Shawn. I would beg to differ on one point, though - where you say "...this doesn't read very profound."

This is truly profound! It's like feng shue for the mind. I've already got the question up on the wall in front of my desk. Thanks for the wisdom -- and the funny headline!

Shawn, good for you! I worked with an organizing consultant recently, too. It was the best thing I've ever done. I found myself resisting throwing things away (and I never considered myself a hoarder!). You've added another dimension to those decisions here with the past you vs future you component. Food for thought!

What an absolutely fab question! I found it on HappySimple and came over to have a read. I started using it and man, it has cleared out so much stuff linked to other stuff and people and they just went too!

Thank you

Very cool! Next time I need to do some uncluttering, I will ask myself - Does this item represent where I’m going or where I’ve been? It's just so clear when you put it like that!
